About The Sinden

Named in honour of its patron, Sir Donald, The Sinden Theatre is the only theatrical venue within the borough of Ashford.

As well as providing superb facilities for the Performing Arts Department of the school, the theatre seeks to provide a wide choice of entertainment for the residents of The Weald and south-east Kent.

Equipped to the highest standards, the 231 seat venue is able to accommodate a wide diversity of shows from dance to rock concerts, drama to musicals. The theatre has seen visits by performers like Dave Lee, Phil Cool, Sir Donald Sinden, The Fureys & Davey Arthur, Maddy Prior and The Reduced Shakespeare Company. Full digital projection facilities also allow the theatre to be used as a cinema, as and when required.

The Sinden has established itself as an important music venue for the region. Recent offerings have included Abbalicious, The Bootleg Shadows, The ELO Experience, Led By Zeppelin and Just Floyd as well as a number of gigs promoting local bands, both from within the school and throughout its catchment area. Local record companies have also used the venue for promoting their artists through a series of showcases.

Local drama groups, including The Woodchurch Players, Staplehurst Dramatic Society and The Tenterden Operatic and Dramatic Society, have also taken advantage of the facility, mounting full scale productions like 'Summer Holiday', 'Little Shop of Horrors' and 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof'.

Although there is not, at present, a purpose-built bar, The Sinden is fully-licensed and a basic range of drinks and snacks is normally available, both before a performance and during the interval.

The Sinden Theatre is available for hire. If you would like more information about the theatre and the equipment available please contact our theatre manager.
